Harrison's Jam: A Photo Essay of Community, Skateboarding, & Mental Health
Harrison's Jam Jam skate fest in Mill Valley, CA was a vibrant community event held in September 2021 to celebrate the beloved Harrison Skatepark. More than just a competition for skaters of all levels, the event aimed to raise awareness and support for mental health, particularly among young people.
The skatepark itself holds a special meaning. It's named after Harrison Dunnett, a talented singer, songwriter, rapper, and passionate skateboarder who tragically passed away in 2016 at the age of 20. The park was renamed in his honor to celebrate his infectious enthusiasm for skateboarding and his deep connection to the Mill Valley community.
Harrison's Jam Jam embodied this spirit perfectly. While offering exciting skateboard competitions, the event went beyond mere tricks and scores. It provided a platform for showcasing mental health resources and promoting open conversations about well-being, creating a space for young people to feel heard and supported.
