Sweetwater Music Hall at 50

Mill Valley, California, located at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, is known for its natural beauty, access to hiking and biking trails, world class shopping and dining. It’s also known as the cultural center of Marin County, home to an international film festival, mountain theater, and a legendary music scene, anchored by Sweetwater Music Hall.

On November 17, 1972, doors to Fred Martin’s storefront music club opened and the Sweetwater was born. Within its first decade, the club had earned its place in Bay Area music history as a small stage venue that hosted renowned artists such as: Bob Weir, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, Etta James, Clarence Clemons, Sammy Hagar, Robert Cray, Aaron Neville, Greg Allman and many more.

Today, Sweetwater Music Hall lives down the street from its original home. Though its ownership and location have changed over the years, its commitment to music, diversity, culture, education and the arts thrives with local artists and international acts headlining the stage.

Step into the shadows and witness the energy of the club's 50th year anniversary. This black & white series pays homage to the raw, iconic style of Rolling Stone magazine in its early years. Happy anniversary Sweetwater!
